GRASS-FED MEATS & DAIRY

Moveable Beast | offering incredible discounts on excellent grass-fed beef with the option of buying 1/8 to a whole cow. The price is per pound and not dependent on the cut (stew meat is the same as filet mignon). It is currently about $4.60/pound if you find enough people to buy the whole cow--they divide it up for you; excellently packaged and labeled, I might add. The meat is also available retail at Hudson Hils in Cold Spring.

Walnut Grove Farm | offering an outstanding quality of pork products, from fresh roasts to smoked bacon to delicious ham steaks. Unbeatably delicious. She also has golden yolked chicken and duck eggs. Sundays year-round 10 - 4pm at the Beacon Farmers' Market (at the Beacon train station). Or contact Holly for special orders (she is happy to do that). Holly@WalnutGroveFarms.net or 845-361-5325.

Beacon Milk Club | grass-fed and raw milk available year-round at the Beacon Farmer's Market on Sunday from 10 - 1pm. Contact Sarah Brown at beaconmilkclub@gmail.com or 269-598-6814 if you are interested in a weekly pickup. Half-gallon glass jars of raw milk are $5.

LOCAL PRODUCE / CSAs

Joining a CSA (a community-supported agriculture program where you buy into a farm's yearly harvest) provides a weekly chance to cook with local and seasonal produce. The fruits and vegetables you receive are grown without harmful chemicals. By joining a CSA, you benefit from the deeper connection to the seasons and to the farmers who grow your food, which are all absent from the supermarket experience.

Farm Share | For Manhattanites without access to a farm, this company will deliver your weekly basket of goods directly to your apartment door (usually in the middle of the night, so it helps to have a doorman!). Pretty unbeatably simple and I have clients raving about the quality. You can opt to have fresh pastured eggs delivered too.

Common Ground Farm | For those in Dutchess County who want to pick up their CSA share directly at the farm, Common Ground Farm in Wappingers Falls is your spot. CGF offers weekly produce shares and a chance to work in the fields alongside the farmers (called a "working share"), allowing you significant savings and to feel feel even more connected to your food. The produce is also available retail at the Beacon Farmer's Market on Sundays from 10 - 4pm from June - October.
